Battle Studies

Battle Studies is the fourth album created by John Mayer. The theme of the album evolves around the "'war' between lovers at the end of a relationship". The idea for the album is rumored to have been derived from Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" [1]. The title, Battle Studies, came from a novel that John had read. In a deleted blog posting, he made his first mention of the novel:
"There is danger in theoretical speculation of battle, in prejudice, in false reasoning, in pride, in braggadocio. There is one safe resource, the return to nature..." - Ardant Du Pinq, Battle Studies (Circa 1870)
