John used to play small shows at coffee shops, and bookstores. One day, he forgot his guitar and had to run home to get it, only a few minutes until the show. He got there, and had already been playing the riff, and wrote the song on the spot, tweeking it a few times. (Taken from John discussing the story at the 2008 Summer Atlanta concert)
